Crisis weighs heavy upon the children of India today. In a society that makes basic survival increasingly difficult, millions of children in India are placed in a debilitating situation. Instead of going to school and learning the skills that will help them create a more secure future for themselves and their families, they are forced to labour in difficult working conditions which are dangerous to their health and devastating to their psychological, social, educational and spiritual well-being.
India has the dubious distinction of being the nation with the largest number of bonded child labourers in the world. The official figure of bonded child labourers in India is 13 million, but the actual number is much higher. India has an estimated 115 million child labourers, of these 1 million work in hazardous occupations such as cracker making, diamond polishing, glass/brass-ware, carpet weaving, bangle making, lock making and mica cutting. A large number of children also work as domestic servants. With the help of the local supporters and prayer partners we were able to provide food for the street children and rescued child labourers. We were able to do this at some times only. Due to lack of regular support we were unable to provide them every time. There are thousands of children on the roads without shelter and food. Their parents have left them of the inefficiency to feed them, some of them have no parents. We are planning to establish an orphanage for these homeless children. We request you to kindly share your love to a needy child. $30 a month will feed and provide education to a child for the whole month.
One of the more important ministries of ELIM is Children Bible Clubs. We conduct VBS every year in the month of May and as follow up work we form around 25 Children Bible Clubs in which we help the children with their studies and also make them grow deeper in the knowledge of Christ. We appoint a teacher for each Bible Club and give $20 to each as honorarium. We provide them with a sports kit by which they will have some physical and mental activity. These clubs have made a great impact in the lives of the children and also in their families. We want you to be a part of this glorious ministry. $20 will support a Club leader with the honorarium.
