Community Development
People in the villages live in hazardous conditions such as drought, poverty and persecution. They seek a better life for their family. But instead they face rejection, exploitation, sickness and destitution. The place they call home is a hot, crowded slum settlement, without clean water, sewage facilities or electricity. ELIM has a message of hope and wants to share the love of Jesus with the poor through both word and deed. The Good Samaritan ministries of ELIM is particularly concerned with the poor living in the villages, helping them to help themselves. We in the GS Ministries with a God-given burden, go to help these poorest of the poor. We impart basic literacy to the most illiterates and help them with medical care. We are equally committed to teaching them the truth of the Bible. We firmly believe that the truth about Jesus transforms lives, yet we are committed to helping people, whether or not they respond to the gospel. Basic medical care is nonexistent or inadequate for people in most parts of rural India. ELIM meets the needs of these people through medical camps, relieving them from pain and suffering, saving lives sometimes and demonstrating Jesus’ love for them. Clean, safe water is hard to come by in many villages in India. In some cases people have to walk miles to fetch water. In other cases the only available source of water is from open wells, ponds, etc. which are either contaminated or cause water borne diseases like typhoid, cholera, etc. The provision of a bore well makes safe water available to an entire village. We also conduct awareness programs on HIV/AIDS, TB, Leprosy, environment and child labour. We provide vocational training for physically challenged and women in tailoring, embroidery, drawing, fabric painting, carpentry, candle making, paper plate making, file pads making, envelopes making and basket making. |
